Over 80% of GoLite's first product line is developed from environmentally preferred, recycled and low energy production materials and processes.

Bottles to Body

Did you know we produce a million plastic bottles per minute, and 91% are not recycled?

Learn how we are converting these post-consumer bottles into clothing.

Da.Ai Partnership

GoLite works in partnership with Da.Ai to integrate leading recycled fabrics and processes into our collection. Learn more about this collaboration with recycling volunteers, hear their heart for recycling, and watch what makes this process special.

Packaging with Principles

In our effort to GoResponsibly, we are committed to finding and using packaging materials that are recycled, recyclable, and compostable. We are partnering with likeminded suppliers to utilize new and better materials in our packaging collection.

  • Leading the Way in Eco-friendly Apparel

    Sustainability Matters

As an outfitter for all kinds of outdoor adventures – from travel to trail runs – we want to offer thoughtfully designed, comfortable, long-lasting activewear using the best practices in eco-friendly apparel making. When we found out that only 9% of the plastic bottles made globally are recycled, we knew we would do our part in reducing waste going into landfills and oceans and becoming a leader in responsible manufacturing.

    Here’s how we do it:

    - Develop fabrics from 100% post-consumer plastic
    - Use low-energy production methods
    - Include recycled materials for labels and hang tags, biodegradable and compostable poly bags and post-consumer recycled shipping materials
    - Manufacture products in fair wage, responsibly run factories
    - Partner with larger community of outdoor apparel makers and organizations to find solutions

Creating high-performance gear with a focus on environmental and social responsibility sounds like a tall order, but it doesn’t have to be. When relaunching the brand in 2019, GoLite committed to eco-friendly products and practices as part of GoResponsibly, which meant 80% of the first product line was sustainably made. For 2020, we will reach 90+%.

Sustainability is our mission and is at the heart of what we do.

    Developing Eco-friendly Fabrics

We have a plastic problem, so GoLite decided to do our part in finding solutions. When we relaunched the brand, we decided to take our reputation as an innovator in outdoor gear and further our commitment to sustainability. That meant developing our own eco-friendly fabrics.

We partnered up with Da.Ai, a non-profit producing post-consumer plastic products based in Taipei, Taiwan. Volunteers sort through tons of plastic bottles, which are cleaned and processed to make fibers. These fibers are then woven into the fabrics that make up most of our collection. All the finishing touches, from the fabric printing method to the labels, are considered to maximize sustainability. We use energy-efficient methods and biodegradable materials. In our first line of clothing since relaunching, more than 80% is made with eco-friendly fabrics and sustainable methods of manufacturing. As of 2020, our collections will achieve 90+%.

We want our clothes to last a long time and for you to get the most comfortable, reliable wear and performance from each garment.

    Developing Low-Energy Production Methods

How we make our products is just as important as what materials we use to make them. GoLite uses low-energy production methods for our eco-friendly outdoor gear. Using recycled plastic to create fabrics cuts down on energy use by 50% compared to making that fabric with brand new materials. We also use fabric dyeing methods that further reduce water consumption - up to 80%.

We want to keep a light footprint on the planet. Keeping our production low-energy and waste-conscious helps us reach that goal.

    Working with Recycled Materials

GoLite is proud to partner with volunteers who help make our recycled fabrics happen. Using recycled materials keeps tons of plastic out of landfills and oceans.

It all starts at a facility in Taipei, where our partner Da.Ai collects plastic bottles. Dozens of volunteers sort through each bottle and separate by color. These bottles are broken down into smaller bits, melted, then remade into fiber that’s woven into our durable, high-performance and lightweight fabrics.

We think our fabrics are special. Not only are they made from recycled bottles, we use earth-friendly dyes and low-energy methods to produce each high-performance garment. We also use recycled and recyclable materials for packaging. Every aspect of our production cycle is considered to ensure an eco-friendly product line that customers can feel good about buying.

  • Fabric & Technology

GoLite is committed to creating products with sustainable fabric and technology is helping us do just that. We expect our performance wear to do everything – keep us warm and dry, cool us down, resist the rain, guard against UV rays, and help us move comfortably and effortlessly. That’s why we developed our Recycled Collection. Every piece of GoLite clothing is made from recycled bottles that are sorted, melted, spun, and woven into durable fabric.

By using recycled bottles, we are reducing the amount of plastic in landfills and oceans, and reducing the energy it requires to manufacture new fabric. Each garment is made to last with comfort and style in mind, no matter how you seize the day. Take a closer look at how we work with our partners to make it all happen.

  • Packaging Sustainability

Sustainability is a core value at GoLite. We don’t just talk about, we are about it.

In our effort to GoResponsibly, we are committed to finding and using sustainable packaging materials that are recycled, recyclable, and compostable. We partner with like-minded suppliers to utilize new and better materials in our packaging collection. Read on for a closer look at our efforts to make a positive impact on the planet.

    Packaging & Hangtags

Our packaging and hangtags are made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Just like our clothing fabrics, we are committed to using recycled materials to cut down on what goes into landfills. We also use recycled paper for all of our hangtags, underwear packaging, and sock packaging.

    Shipping Boxes and Mailers

Packaging is a category that can have a significant impact on sustainability. Our shipping boxes are 100% recycled corrugated cardboard made in partnership with Pratt, a company committed to sustainable practices. We source our shipping mailers from EcoEnclose, makers of 100% recycled content. Our mailers offer a dual adhesive strip enabling reuse prior to being recycled.

Getting rid of plastic packaging is a real challenge when it comes to sustainability and we’ve decided that compostable and biodegradable polybags are the only way to go. GoLite uses polybags in partnership with supplier Grabio. Our polybags are certified USA BPI “compostable” which means it must reach 90% or higher biodegration within 180 days. All GoLite products will be shipped to retailers in these biodegradable and compostable polybags, which can be disposed of in a commercial food and yard waste bin.

    UPC Stickers

For such small things, labels and UPC stickers can add up to a lot. To lessen the impact of waste on the environment, GoLite is committed to the smallest details in our sustainability efforts. By partnering with PURE Labels™, we’ve created UPC stickers that are compostable, biodegradable, and recyclable. We don’t stop there. We use adhesives and labels that are independently field tested to meet compostability standards.

  • Fair Trade

GoLite is committed to responsible manufacturing practices. Each piece from our new line of eco-friendly activewear is ethically made with fair trade practices. We partner with factories who are aligned with our mission to ensure the following:

    - Pay fair wages
    - Provide safe working conditions
    - Ensure safe and nondiscriminatory workplaces

Making sustainable, high-performance gear is our purpose, but we can’t do that without committing to fair working conditions. Social responsibility is a priority and a way we want to make a difference in performance gear manufacturing.
